We are a retired American couple spending the year cycling through the Mediterranean and beyond. The start of our trip took us to Sicily in April, where we spent a week in the town of Scicli at C’era una Volta. After being on the road, the house was a wonderful respite. It was spacious, exceptionally clean, and everything worked! The multiple floors gave us personal space and the rooftop deck was perfect for our morning coffee and our evening happy hour. Although the kitchen is small, we were able to cook full meals each night of our stay. The house was perfectly located in the wonderful town of Scicli, close to everything we needed. Being without a car, we did not have any problems shopping or sight seeing from this location. What made the stay exceptional was our hosts, Francesca and Luigi (and their twin daughters Sara and Marta). Even before arriving, Francesca was in touch with us regarding the details of our arrival. Our questions were answered promptly. While we were at the house, Francesca was a phone call away and was able to help us with local shopping and getting train tickets. This house was an exceptional value for the price we paid and all of its amenities. It is owned by a wonderful couple who want to provide a home away from home in a beautiful part of Sicily.

We read Alicia’s article in the Daily Mail, and have just had the best holiday. Francesca and family have made this into a little piece of heaven in Scicli. The house has all you need, and immediately felt like home. It is in a narrow street with a short walk into the main centre of Scicli.Francesca’s wonderful walking tour enabled us to see a side of Scicli that most tourists miss, and the trip to Sampieri at night was lovely as was meeting the family. We chose to eat out, apart from a couple of lunches on the terrace, enjoying the scenery and the lovely warm weather. Everyone is so welcoming, we felt as if we were part of the community, and we met some amazing people. We went by bus to Modica, and also to Sampieri(we were intending to go to Donnalucata but the bus stopped at Sampieri first!!) We will definitely be back and stay longer, five days were just not enough. Thank you Francesca and family for you warm welcome, kindness and generosity.

“Perfect autumn holiday” We spent 17 days at C’era una Volta in Scicli in September/October. Francesca and her family took very good care of us. The house is beautifully situated in a valley between two hillsides – with cave settlements nearby. The interior is very well planned and functional. The terrace had a nice view over the rooftops and was at the same time very private. The town centre is only a short walk away. Scicli has many beautiful buildnings and an interesting history – which Francesca told us all about during an interesting walk through the town. Francesca is a very discrete and thoughtful host. Scicli is an ideal basis for taking trips to nearby Ragusa, Modica and Ispica. The beautiful beach of Sampieri was one of our favorites. We would love to return to Cera una volta and to Scicli.
