“Savoring Scicli in Southern Sicily”
For 5 weather perfect days in mid- April we stayed at C’era Una Votta Scicli and it was not long enough – definitely needed more time to savor more the beautiful town and the comfortable accommodations. As the name implies, it did feel like once upon a time – experiencing the past in the present while in Scicli.
A pleasant short walk away from the main square of Piazza Italia, a lively gathering place throughout the day and night, the apartment is located quietly amidst the surrounding hillsides clustered with former cave dwellings. There is a sitting and dining area downstairs alongside a kitchen with clothes washer and the smaller bathroom. Upstairs there is an airy bedroom where we slept very well, good closet space adjacent, and a shower-equipped bathroom. Another stairway leads to a terrace we much used for breakfast, lunch, aperitifs, reading, clothes drying, sunning, stargazing and full moon watching. All this was very reasonably priced. Wi-fi connection was expected to be added by now making it even more ideal.
Coming and going with the neighbors made us feel like residents of the locality. The town is full of Baroque decorated buildings, intriguing alleyways, many churches centuries old, appealing restaurants (try Osteria dei Tre Colli), nice shops and fine gellateria choices (try Cremeria Candiano).
We were traveling by public transit and it was easy to reach Modica by bus, an enjoyable day trip, especially having lunch (the crocks of super soup) at Osteria de Sapori Perduti. It would also be convenient to go to Noto and Ragusa.
Our so-kind host, Francesca, was at the rail station upon our arrival and drove us to the apartment as well as brought us back for departure. She also took us to Sampieri, stopping at a panifico and introducing us to the tasty scacce (focaccia stuffed with yummy fillings) – perfect to take for a picnic along a delightful sandy seashore walk with the clear Mediterranean Sea beckoning us to wade in.
Our wonderful visit in Scicli was entirely due to Francesca’s genuine care about helping us to have a great time.. Her assistance was just a call away and she also came by to give us whatever assistance we needed. Stay as long as you can to enjoy her hospitality, the apartment, the location – and the Sicilian food.

“A great place to stay and enjoy Sicilian life”
We stayed at the house at the end of a very busy trip to Sicily, and it was a great place to slow down and just enjoy life in Scicli. The house was well equipped and very comfortable. It had a great ‘sun deck’ at the top of the house, which was a wonderful place to go and enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day.
